What is an IWCA Photo Shoot?

2010  IWCA Photo Shoots:

Core Sound Rig Contest, June 26, 2010

St. Clair Flats Decoy Carving Show, August 14, 2010

A photo shoot is simply a prearranged time and place where a photographer will be available to take photographs of some subject, in this case, decoys. Usually, a professional photographer charges a basic fee, called a sitting fee, to cover time and materials for the shoot. Clients then pay an additional fee for each print or print package they buy.

Since IWCA pays for the photographer's time and expenses, members can have their carvings photographed at no cost as a benefit of IWCA membership. Carvers then pay only for the prints they order at a processor of their choice. Or, they can pay for digital images on a CD.

  • Non-IWCA members will be charged a sitting fee of $10.00 per decoy. No charge for IWCA members in good standing.
  • Carvers attending the competition can simply make arrangements on the day of the competition. Carvers sending mail-ins should include a note asking for photos of their pieces or contact prior to each show.
  • Carvers will need a valid e-mail address where they can receive information about their photos.
  • Photos will be posted to an online website where carvers can view the images and order prints from a third-party online processor at minimal cost. Most sites charge eight to ten cents per 4x6 print.
  • Carvers who want high-resolution prints of their work for use on their own website, calendars, cards, brochures, posters, and other promotional products can purchase a CD of all photos of all their birds for $25.00. The decision to buy a CD can be made at any time and does not have to be decided until photos are posted and ready for review.
